Change You Like a Remix

It’s been a hot minute since I last updated. Life is a complicated creature, and the grim truth is that I haven’t had much time or inclination to write since last November. This is only recently beginning to change as I get my medications adjusted, switched, and then re-adjusted to bring my brain chemistry back in line with something that reasonably emulates a functioning human being.

I mentioned in a previous post that I’ve got depression and anxiety in clinically significant amounts, and that hasn’t changed, but apparently my brain’s chemical makeup has. It’s evolved in such a way–because these medications change your brain chemistry over time–that the current meds I’m on just aren’t cutting it. So I’m in the throes of that wonderful game called Finding That New Medication to Prevent Me from Curling Up on My Couch in a Wretched Heap.

Spoilers: the game is not fun.

Additionally, you’re probably noticing some differences hereabouts in terms of the look of the place. My previous web host was real keen on charging me a lot of money for this blog, which is essentially a hobby and sometime advertising space for the shit I write. I couldn’t justify the expense, so the site has been moved to much less cash-intensive WordPress.com hosting. The downside of this is that, in the transfer, a bunch of images and links got broken. If I can find time, I’ll go back and repair some of them, but overall the old content will probably have to remain as it is. Additional downside: unless a certain level of premium goodness is subscribed to with WordPress.com, audio files are a no-go. This means that I’ve had to put the kibosh on Roll to Dodge, may it rest in gaming peace.

But life does go on. I’m currently working on a set of short stories that I’m going to scatter to the four winds once they’re up to snuff. It’ll feel good to get back in the game again. Additionally, the sequel to Love and Other Impossible Things is on the horizon, though I can’t give specifics yet as to when I’ll be able to slap it on Amazon. It’ll be a little beefier than LaOIT in the word count department, though my hope is that it’s still a brisk read.

I’ve also determined that this space is not going to work as a weekly jam. It’s gonna need to be the sort of thing where I update when I’m really feelin’ it–when I’ve got something specific to say or to talk about. Which is probably terrible for SEO, but screw it. I’m either too old or not old enough to try to chase search engines. If people find their way here, so be it. If they don’t, that’s fine, too. I’m trying to take better care of myself, and better care of myself means not burning out my desire to write just as it’s coming back by trying to keep up a weekly blog again.

Think of it like how musicians drop hot new releases periodically with no warning or fanfare. Except instead of an hour of tasty jams, you get to hear my illustrious personage yammer on re: whatever is stuck in my craw at the moment.

It’s good to be back. Be seeing you guys around!
